Implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) System in Tamilnadu from 01.01.2007

Chamber took sustained and strenuous efforts and was primarily responsible for implementation of the highly progressive Value Added Tax system replacing the age old sales tax system in Tamilnadu from 01.01.2007. In due recognition of the meritorious services rendered in this regard, Thri S. Rethinavelu the then President was nominated as a Member of the VAT Implementation Monitoring Committee by the then Tamilnadu Chief Minister Dr. Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi. Many important suggestions for amendments/changes in Tamilnadu Value Added Tax Act, 2006 and its Rules, recommended by the Committee have been accepted and incorporated in the Act and Rules. Many worthwhile suggestions put forward by the Chamber for changes in the TN VAT Act and Rules were carried out by the Tamilnadu Government.
