Public Welfare Activities

The Chamber sold tickets to the tune of Rs. 25,40,900/- for the Mega Star Nite organized by the Corporate & Business Community, Cine Field and Cricket fraternity and held at Madurai on 11th July, 1999 to raise funds for Kargil Relief Fund to provide succour to the families of the soldiers who lost their lives and were disabled while fighting in Kargil area in our northern border to drive out extremists. Chamber donated a sum of Rs. 3,92,929/- to Mata Amritanandamayi Charitable Trust to construct houses for those homeless affected by Gujarat Earthquake on 26th January, 2001.




i) Chamber donated Rs. 18 lakhs to the then Chief Minister Dr. J. Jayalalithaa towards Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Temple Annadhanam Scheme on 11.09.2002.


A sum of Rs.2.25 lakhs was donated to the 18 grievously injured children of the ghastly fire accident ina private school at Kumbakonam on 16.07.2004 which shook the entire nation and claimed the lives of 93 children. Chamber delegation handed over Rs. 15 lakhs

worth of relief materials to Cuddalore District Collector Thiru Gagan Deep Singh Bedi on 05.01.2005 for distribution to the Tsunami affected people in the region. Rs.1,70,000 worth of relief materials was handed over by Chamber to Thiru Anitha R. Radhakrishnan,

the then Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Government of Tamilnadu at Madurai on 26.11.2005 for distribution to flood affected people in Madurai. Chamber Office Bearers under the leadership of the then President Thiru S. Jeyabalan handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Thiru M.K. Stalin, the then Minister for Local Administration, Govt. of Tamilnadu on 30.10.2008 towards Sri Lankan Tamils Relief Fund.





Our chamber sent Rs. 1.5 lakh to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund as contribution for the rehabilitation of the affected people and rebuilding of the devastated areas in Uttarakand which suffered heavy loss of lives and extensive damage to property roads and communication network due to unprecedented floods and landslides in June 2013. Chamber sold tickets to the tune of Rs. 25,40,900 for the Mega Star Night show organised in Madurai on 11.07.1999 for Kargil War Relief Fund for providing relief to the families of Jawans who lost their lives and those injured while fighting to save honour of our nation in the our northern border. Chamber provided relief to severely affected people by unprecedented floods due to heavy rains on 2nd and 3rd Dec 2015 in Chennai,

Cuddalore, Thiruvellore, Kanchipuram districts in Tamilnadu. On 5.12.2015 a team led by Chamber Treasurer D.S. Jeeier babu took 20 tons of materials supplied by Chamber office bearers and Executive Committee Members in two lorries given by Madurai Radha Transport and distributed to the affected people in Chennai.




On behalf of out Chamber, three lorry loads of relief materials worth Rs. 16 lakhs were sent on 18.08.2018 through Madurai District Collector Shri K. Veera Ragavo Rao IAS to parts of Kerala severly affected by unprecedented floods and extensive loss of lives and damage to properties, for distribution to the affected people. Another three lorry loads of relief materials worth Rs. 16 lakhs were sent on behalf of TN Chamber through Madurai District Collector Dr. S. Natarajan IAS, to parts of Thiruvarur and Nagapatinam Districts in Tamilnadu on 22nd November 2018 and distributed to badly affected people by Gaja Cyclone.


ii) Chamber’s COVID-19 relief measures :


• Rs.31 Lakhs collected from Chamber Office bearers and Executive Committee Members was given to Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s Covid-19 Relief Fund by President Thiru N. Jegatheesan.


• Medical equipments worth Rs.2.5 lakhs required for patients under treatment in Covid -19 care Centers run by Tamilnadu Government in Madurai handed over to Madurai District Collector on behalf of the Chamber. In association with Madurai District Administration and Amma Charitable Trust organized a “Amma Kitchen” at Chamber’s

Auditorium kitchen and prepared quality and healthy food in packets for distribution daily for 150 days up to 2500 patients daily at 5 times who were under treatment in various Covid-19 care Centres and Govt. Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.


• Chamber Office bearers headed by President Thiru N. Jegatheesan distributed face masks, food packets, biscuits and drinking water to about 1600 migrant labourers from other states worked in southern districts of Tamilnadu, returning to their native places in the special train in Madurai Railway station on 26th May 2020.




iii) Corporate Social Responsible Activities of our Chamber during COVID 19 Pandemic second wave :


a) An Oxygen Generation Plant was installed and the effort to taken by President N. Jegatheesan of our Chamber at Govt. Rajaji Hospital, Madurai at a cost of Rs. 90 lakhs,

along with Madurai Coats (P) Ltd., and J.K. Fenner India Ltd., Madurai on 19.09.2021. Dr. Palanivel Thiagarajan, Hon’ble Minister for Finance & Human Resources Management, Govt. of Tamilnadu inaugurated the Oxygen Plant in the presence of Thiru P. Moorthy, Hon’ble Minister for Commercial Taxes & Registration, Govt of Tamilnadu. Tvl. A. Ramkumar, Manufacturing Director, Madura Coats Ltd., Madurai, P.G.S. Selvan Dinesh Davidson, Asst. Vice-President operations, J.K. Fenner India Ltd., Madurai, G. Thalapathi, MLA., Madurai North, M. Boominathan, MLA, Madurai South, Dr. S. Aneesh Sekhar, I.A.S.,

District Collector, Madurai, Dr. K.P. Karthikeyan, I.A.S., Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, Dr. A. Rathinavel Dean, Rajaji Hospital, Madurai participated in the inauguration event. In due remembrance of our Chamber activities, donor recognition plague was placed near the oxygen generation plant




b) In order to give free treatment to the COVID 19 patients, effort to taken by President N. Jegatheesan of our Chamber has established a Siddha Medical Treatment Hospital with 200 beds along with all medical infrastructure requirements at American College campus in association with American College, Madurai, Madurai Corporation and Alma Sidda Multispeciality Hospital, Tirumangalam. Shri K.N. Nehru, Hon’ble Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, Govt. of Tamilnadu inaugurated the Sidda Medical Treatment Hospital on 17.05.2021, in the presence of Shri P. Moorthy, Hon’ble Minister of Commercial Taxes and Registration, Govt. of Tamilnadu. Good response from the public and everyone has appreciated the initiative of our Chamber. Quality and hygienic meals were provided 3 times a day to the patients, the salary for doctors and medical assistants, mattresses / pillow / bedsheets for the patients, drinking water, bathroom requirements, steam and other expenses related to the hospital were borne by our Chamber.


c) 500 Nos. of Pulse Oxi Meter and 200 Nos. of Infrared Thermal Scanner were handed over to the District Collector, Madurai. 250 Nos. of Pulse Oxi Meter and 100 Nos. of Infrared Thermal Scanner, worth of Rs. 12 lakhs were handed over to the Corporation Commissioner by Dr. N. Jegatheesan, President of our Chamber in the presence of

Shri P. Moorthy, Hon’ble Minister of Commercial Taxes and Registration, Govt. of Tamilnadu, Thiru M. Boominathan, M.L.A., Madurai South Constituency on 28.05.2021.





d) In order to help the poor and needy people, who have not afford to bear the cost for the cremation of the deceased, affected from Covid 19,our Chamber has undertaken to bear the cremation cost, in a humanitarian way, on behalf of the deceased family, for a

period of 30 days from 02.06.2021 both in Thathaneri and Keeraithurai

electric crematorium at Madurai. Thiru N. Jegatheesan and other Office Bearers of Our Chamber has donated relevant amount to the Commissioner of Madurai Corporation for the crematorium charges for the deceased, buried at Thathaneri and Keeraithurai

electric crematorium.


e) COVID 19 – Free Vaccination camps at our Chamber premises: Vaccination was one of the precautionary measures that would help contain the spread of COVID 19. Amid

a virulent second wave of COVID 19 infections in Madurai our Chamber organized COVID 19 free vaccination campaigns between 15th April and 17th April and 29th April & again from 27th May to 30th May 2021 at our Chamber Auditorium in association with Madurai

District Administration, Madurai Corporation, Health Department of Madurai Corporation, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Chemists & Druggists Association Madurai and Women Studies Centre of Madurai Kamaraj University and more than 10000 people got vaccinated in the above camps. Thiu N. Jegatheesan, President and other Office Bearers well organised all the camps.





f) Modern Electric Hi-tech Gasifier Crematorium at Madurai : TN Chamber has planned under the leadership of Thiru N. Jegatheesan, President to establish a modern electric

Hi-tech Gasifier crematorium at its own cost, by way of generous donations from

the executive committee, roughly One crore rupee, at Madurai Pudukulam,

opposite to Mattuthavani Bus Stand, Press Colony, Madurai. Chamber has taken up

the project in the spirit of service rather than commercial to ensure a dignified

send off to the deceased before the body is consigned to flame. The crematorium

will be equipped with a mandapam for performing the last rites, a waiting hall, toilets with water facility, Vehicle parking, burial registry, facility to collect ashes etc., along with a well maintained garden area to create a peaceful ambience. The crematorium will be duly maintained by our Chamber by collecting minimum amount. In this regard our Chamber has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commissioner of Madurai Corporation. Boomi Pooja Ceremony of Electric Hi-tech Gasifier Crematorium held on 16th July 2021. Thiru P. Moorthy, Hon’ble Minister of Commercial Taxes and Registration, Govt. of Tamilnadu inaugurated the Boomi Pooja in the presence of Dr. S. Aneesh Sekhar IAS., District Collector, Madurai and Dr. K.P. Karthikeyan IAS., Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, Thiru. G. Thalapathy MLA., Madurai North Constituency and Thiru. M. Boominathan MLA., Madurai South Constituency participated as Guests of Honour. Now this Scheme is constructed under Namakku Name scheme and Chamber’s contribution is 102 lakhs and the State Govt. contribution is 49 lakhs and project cost is 151 lakhs and to be completed in the month of March 2024.
